Why are some people so seemingly blessed at being successful – at accomplishing their goals – when the rest of us always seem to be waiting for the next big break to come along?

I’ve heard it over and over again – and I’m sure that you have too, that the secret to success is to simply stay the course. Slow and steady. Have a goal, and stick to it.

I hate this story. It’s just not very exciting. I want quick results. I want change now. But successful people keep repeating that same old “set a goal, and stick to it” story. And it seems to be working for them.

Drat.

So I know I have to change. And I believe, if I want better for my kids, that I have to help them learn this, too. But it’s hard, when I don’t have it all figured out myself. Our guest this week on the podcast, Mac Thomson, has a great story of his personal journey, which led to a very successful career and an early retirement. He had a surprising tool he used to help him to focus on his goal — something I’d never heard of before — a daruma doll. This little doll is a surprising and small reminder can be a great tool – for you, and for your kids – to help stay on track, succeeding at “setting a goal, and sticking to it.” It could be a fun way to help your kids reach their goals!
